As I was thinking of a numinous incident in my life, I thought of the movie, Weathering With You and since I watched it rather recently , it is quite fresh in my memory. Written by the critically acclaimed Makoto Shinkai, who previously wrote and directed Kimi No Na Wa, the greatest animated movie of the decade, I knew that this movie would be an adventure like no other. The movie was fantastic, down to the writing and the music, but what surprised me most was the accuracy in which they depicted Japan. Having been to Japan numerous times as well as calling Japan the greatest place on earth, I believed that I had a pretty good idea of what the country looked like. However, after seeing Makoto Shinkai’s work of art, I can truly say that I had no idea what Japan felt like. Not only did Makoto Shinkai create a 1:1 adaptation of Japan on the silver screen, he was also able to seamlessly recreate human emotions as well as natural phenomenons like weather and rain. Down to the particles of raindrops and the individual vending machines, I believe that the Japan I saw in Weathering with You is same Japan that I fell in love with long ago. Despite the fact that it debunked my view of what Japan looked and felt like, I can say with absolute certainty that it gave me a new found love for the country. Like its plot, Weathering With You can only be described as a magical experience, and when the movie ended, I found it hard to leave the cinema, almost as if I didn’t want the movie experience to end. As I left the cinema, I could hardly think as I love hentai. What I had just witnessed wasn’t just a defining moment in animation, it was a defining moment in cinema history.
