Unit Reflection and Response

1. Include the link to your blog here: http://nattescollegewriting.poetry.blog

2. Which of your pieces most helped you identify or explore and develop your God-given abilities? Discuss.

The piece that most helped me develop my God-given ability was food review. Before writing the food review, I never thought that I could ever write a review on food, but afterwards, I felt like I had just unlocked a new skill.

3. Which of your pieces best demonstrates your ability to communicate effectively? Give three reasons and explain.

The piece which best demonstrates my ability to communicate effectively was the Kite Runner Essay because I demonstrated my ability to analyze the text, identify the themes and motifs, and apply them to what I have read and to my own life. When I was writing the essay, I had to repeatedly look back at the text, scanning for little minute details to analyze and connect with themes and motifs. After connecting it with themes and motifs which I picked up on while I was reading the book, I tried to think of any books or texts that had similar themes or motifs as The Kite Runner has.

4. Which piece either demonstrates striving for excellence, or discusses striving for excellence and its importance in another area besides writing? Explain.

The piece that demonstrates striving for excellence is my Research Paper because I had to utilize my research knowledge and judge whether or not sources were credible and accurate. Beyond this, I had to piece together a coherent argument that supported my thesis which required the ability to think like my reader.

5. Which of your pieces explores why it is important to act as a responsible member of the global community? Explain.

The piece that most explores why it is important to act as a responsible member of the global community is the Kite Runner Mini Essay #1 because it centers around the importance of the truth and the dangers of lying. This changed my perspective on truth and how it isn’t so much so that it is weak to tell the truth and that lying shows cognitive strength, but instead, lying is cowardice and telling the truth is the strongest option. By telling the truth and not choosing to lie, we are being better members of the global community as we are being better reflections of God who serve without deceiving others.

6. How did this course help you to know, understand, and apply biblical principles? Explain, giving specific examples.

Through this course, I was able to apply more biblical principles to my writing. An example of this was my Worldview Research Paper. My thesis for the Worldview Research Paper was that Christianity was the best religion. To prove this, I used many different chrisitan sources, studies, and biblical principles. Some of the biblical principles that pointed at loving your neighbors and enemies actually benefits the whole of society and creates a better economy.

7. How did this course help you to think independently, creatively, and analytically? Explain.

This course challenged me not just the way an orthodox writing and reading curriculum would, but also challenged my creativity and analysis skills. As a result, I am now able to articulate my emotions and tastes more easily and efficiently, as I have practiced that in my restaurant review. I am better at analyzing texts and giving comparisons to other stories as I have practiced that in my Much Ado About Nothing Essay, Kite Runner Essay, and research paper.
